Thinking Critically

16. Much discussion has focused on the need to drive more efficient cars and use less electricity. If the law of conservation of  energy is true, why are people concerned about energy usage ?
people is using energy for things that are not important .

17. if heat flows in only one direction, how can both hot and cold liquids reach room temperature as they sit on a table?
hot looses heat and goes to the air and the air goes to the cold .

18. think about what happens to jack and jill in the nursery room. what kinds of enrgy are used? how was each energy form used?
both, kinetic and potential energy because if they are moving they are using kinetic energy and if they dont is potential energy.

19. compare the 3 temperature scales you learned about. how are they different? how are they similar?
in the celsius scale water freezes at  0° and boils at  100°
farenheit scale water freezes at  32° and boils at  212°
kelvin scale is known as absolute temperature scale and lowest temperature is  0°.
the differnce is that water freezes an boils at different temperatures
similar is that  both talk about water at different temperaturesç

20. use what you know about the movement of thermal energy to explain why you would place a minor burn on your arm under cool, running water.
heat from the warmer object transfers to the cooler object and it will not be too painfull

Developing Skills

When you are jumping you have potential and kinetic energy. Halfway up you have kinetic energy.
In the highest point you have most potential energy. Halfway down its kinetic energy and when you are back in the mat it is potential energy.
